  • Donor Awareness

Saving and enhancing lives through organ and tissue donation would not be possible without the dedicated efforts of the many partners and advocates that promote donation. We would like to thank all of our volunteers and members of The Transplant Network. We would also like to express our appreciation to all of the organizations and communities that help us in our efforts to increase public understanding and support for organ and tissue donation as a critical public health issue. Special thanks goes to the Nevada Organ & Tissue Donor Task Force, the Nevada legislature and the Nevada DMV for the tremendous support and help they have given to us throughout the years. Above all, we are eternally grateful to all of our donors and donor family members who have given the most precious gift of life!

How’s it working so far?  Between May 1 and middle of September, around 275,000 Facebook users posted their donor status on the site, according to...

Mucho Macho Man and his trainer: a Derby story with heart

Mucho Macho Man and his trainer: a Derby story with heart (CNN) — Each morning about 5, every morning without fail, Kathy Ritvo is at the track, always the most dependable 100-to-1 shot on the grounds. On the backside — that musky, muddy village where the horses live — she finds life, too. “I don’t miss any days,” she said. “I love it. It keeps me busy; it keeps my mind busy. I’m not a transplant patient when I’m at the barn, I’m a trainer.” You’ve never heard of any horse she has...

Birthday brings both hope and uncertainty for transplant patient

Birthday brings both hope and uncertainty for transplant patient When he takes the Great Basin Brewing Company stage for a special Sat., March 5, 2011 show that falls on his 49th birthday, singer-songwriter and transplant patient Brother Dan Palmer will naturally reflect on the dichotomy of two prevailing themes in his life: hope and uncertainty, a precarious, dare-to-dream way of living. Almost two years after liver failure led to three near-death episodes — followed by three miraculous revivals — the former northern Nevadan is embracing...

Need for Blood and Organ Donors Continues to Grow

Need for Blood and Organ Donors Continues to Grow Every single adult in the United States is carrying around the raw materials to save at least one life, and possibly more than one. Donation of organs, blood, bone marrow and even the stem cells contained in umbilical cord blood can help heal tens of thousands of people afflicted with terrible diseases, health officials say. But the need for most of these donations is growing, not shrinking. As of Feb. 10, 110,324 people were on a national waiting list for an organ donation, up more than 80...
